Elderly can claim help with winter fuel bills

Help with heating bills this winter poster

Grants to help with winter fuel bills are being offered to elderly people living alone this winter. The grants are available to residents of Kettering and Barton Seagrave.

People claiming the money must not have more than £300 income per week, excluding benefits, and must be over the statutory retirement age.

The funding comes from Kettering Charities for the Poor, which has been running since 1805 and can trace its history back to the nineteenth century.

The scheme is run in partnership with Kettering Town Council and the grants are planned to be in the region of £70, subject to review at the end of the application period.

Kettering Town Councillor and Chairman of the Trustees, Cllr Lloyd Bunday, said: "I am very pleased to be able to offer these fuel grants to the people of Kettering and Barton Seagrave. This is a lifeline for people during the coldest winter months and makes a real difference to people's lives."

Applicants have until Wednesday 7 December to return the form and have it approved, ahead of grants being made before Christmas. Applicants are urged to make sure they meet the eligibility criteria before applying.

Please note applications are now closed for 2022.
