Support for the people of Ukraine

#StandWithUkraine - Vigil, Sunday 6 March 2022

Thank you to all those people who attended the vigil on Sunday 6th March at the Market Place in memory of those who have been lost in this war. Your support is being heard in Ukraine.

The Town Council unanimously approved the following motion at their meeting on 23 March 2022

Kettering Town Council supports North Northamptonshire Council's statement that unreservedly condemns the unprovoked aggression of Russia in invading the Ukraine and stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and supports the British Government in its diplomatic and economic measures against the Russian State. In doing so we recognise that our Town has residents from the Ukraine and other, Baltic, countries who choose to live in our democratic country in peace and harmony.

Donate money to the cause

Ukraine is in desperate need of humanitarian aid at this time, and there are a number of organisations in action supporting right now. The Disasters Emergency Committee pulls together the key charities on the frontline and is being match-funded by the government, and locally we are fundraising to send aid direct to Ukraine.

Disasters Emergency Committee

The DEC is a collective of 15 global charities who are experts in humanitarian aid and specialists in different areas of disaster response. These include: British Red Cross, Oxfam, Save the Children, Action Against Hunger, Tear Fund, Action Aid and more.

Every pound donated to the DEC will be match funded by the government, up to £20 million.

Northamptonshire Help for Ukraine

This local Facebook group was started by the community to raise money locally and collect items for Ukraine.

Northamptonshire Help for Ukraine - Pomoc dla Ukrainy - Допомога Україні

They started a Collection Pot which has already raised over £3,000: https://www.collectionpot.com/pot/1411885/

The group aims to raise £25,000 in total, £1,500 for each Ukrainian HGV that is currently stranded in Rothwell. This will pay for fuel and toll fares to get the Ukrainian drivers home, and the lorries are being loaded up with humanitarian aid. Once the lorries are successfully funded, the remaining money will go to humanitarian organisations supporting Ukraine.
