We need a hero for Christmas

The nominations are flooding in for a Kettering hero to help turn on this this year's Christmas lights.

Kettering Town Council launched an appeal this week to find a local person who deserves a treat at Christmas – by getting on stage with the Mayor to turn on the lights.

The council already has dozens of entries to read, from a range of fantastic local people who are doing good from the town.

Nominations include people who do litter picking, youngsters who have not been well, people volunteering for food banks and charities and many more.

Nominations are now being accepted on the council's website – and people have until Tuesday 31 October to submit their suggestions online.

The Mayor will then select the worthiest community champion to join her on stage at this year's Christmas lights switch on.

Mayor of Kettering, Cllr Emily Fedorowycz, said: "We have had so many entries already for the competition There are so many good things being done by local people, it's absolutely humbling to read about them.

"We are going to have an incredibly hard job choosing just one person form all the entries.
