Busy year planned for town events

A packed year of events is being planned by Kettering Town Council to attract people into the town centre and celebrate Kettering.

Back by popular demand, Bill Burton will be taking over the Market Place with the Friday Night Discos – with an extra disco planned in May.

For families there will be an Easter holidays egg hunt around the shops in the town centre, plus a Hallowe'en trail in October half term.

Kettering By The Sea will be in the Market Place in August, giving children and families free play and entertainment daily.

The popular Bands in the Park programme returns to Rockingham Road Pleasure Park bandstand from July – with two Bands in the Town events this year planned for May.

The Kettering Community Summer Market, first held last year, will be back in the Market Place with free stalls for local charities and community groups to help promote themselves and attract new volunteers.

Four Summer Saturdays are planned for the last Saturdays in the month from April to July, bringing street food, crafts and local traders, live music and entertainment to the town Market Place.

Three skate event days are planned for this year at the Ise Lodge Skate Park, with prizes to be won in competitions throughout the day plus a skills workshops with a qualified coach.

Concluding the year at Christmas the town council will be staging this year's Christmas lights switch on in November and festive markets throughout December.

Cllr Craig Skinner, Chair of the Markets and Events Committee, said: "We are so pleased that this year's events have been so successful. People have really embraced what we have offered them, and it's been incredible to see so many people enjoying themselves in the town.

"We are really pleased to build on this year by bringing more events in 2024 and giving people a chance to come into town and get together and enjoy themselves."
