Town councillors in Kettering have elected a new Mayor for the coming year.

Cllr Emily Fedorowycz was selected to be the First Citizen of Kettering at the Annual Council meeting last night.

During the ancient Mayor Making ceremony, Cllr Fedorowycz was installed as Mayor and formally promised to carry out her duties to the best of her judgement and ability.

Mayor of Kettering raises thousands for charity

The Mayor of Kettering has raised thousands of pounds for her nominated charity this year.

Cllr Keli Watts has worked to raise awareness of and funds for Northamptonshire Sands, the baby loss charity.

Now the total stands at just over £2,400 thanks to a range of fundraising ideas including celebrating International Women's Day, Christmas street collections and even a talk on pumpkins.

Residents vote “yes” to neighbourhood plan

Headlands residents have voted in favour of a neighbourhood plan to shape the future of their area.

The results of the referendum for the South West Kettering (Headlands Community) Neighbourhood Plan have now been counted with 91% of voters in favour of the plan.

The vote took place on Thursday 27 April and was counted at Corby Cube on Friday 28 April.

Town councillors have unveiled their schedule of events for Kettering this year, with a range of different activities and events aimed at all ages and groups.

 Grants boost to support vital community groups

Town councillors have agreed on funding for community groups in the last round of grants awarded for the year.

The money has gone to North Northants First Responders to give training to volunteers, Off The Streets to run anti-knife workshops and Kettering Food Bank.

Midsummer Market will celebrate the Summer Solstice

The longest evening of the year is being celebrated in Kettering this June with an evening market.

The Midsummer Market is being held to support local charities, community groups and voluntary organisations on Wednesday 21 June 2023.

Easter fun can be found in Kettering town centre this spring with a free trail around the shops.

Children can pick up a trail sheet from the library, the first stop on the treasure hunt, and then follow the map around town to find all the hidden eggs.

Winners announced for biodiversity competition

A scheme to build a school pond and another to support vulnerable women with horticultural therapy are among the winners of a biodiversity competition.

Southfield School for Girls has been given £1,000 to create a wildlife pond at their school and Ketterin Women's Centre has £400 to create the therapy garden.

Vegan market returns to town centre this summer

Kettering Vegan Market will be taking over the Market Place in the heart of the town this summer.

The event, on Saturday 17 June, will feature a handpicked selection of street food, artisan bakes, craft cheeses, handmade cosmetics, ethical clothing and jewellery, arts and crafts and charity stalls.
